Evo Analytics calculates professional experience using two related measures: Previous external experience and Weighted work experience. These fields give context to an employee’s career background by distinguishing between external roles and roles within your organisation.

Previous external experience

  • Calculated as the number of months between an employee’s 18th birthday and their start date with the organisation.

  • Assumes an employee began their professional career at age 18.

Weighted work experience

Weighted work experience provides a balanced measure of professional experience since the age of 18, applying different values to internal and external roles.

Weightings applied:

  • Current role experience = Months × 1.0

  • Previous internal experience (other roles within the organisation) = Months × 2/3

  • External experience (roles in other organisations) = Months × 1/3

Formula

Weighted Work Experience = (Current role months × 1.0) + (Previous internal months × 2/3) + (External months × 1/3)

Example calculation

Employee profile

  • Current role: 12 months

  • Previous roles in same organisation: 18 months

  • External experience: 30 months

Step 1 – Apply weightings

  • Current role: 12 × 1.0 = 12.0

  • Previous internal: 18 × 2/3 = 12.0

  • External: 30 × 1/3 = 10.0

Step 2 – Add together

12.0 + 12.0 + 10.0 = 34.0 months

Total weighted work experience = 34.0 months
