Reporting lines control how approval requests are routed within the system, as well as who a manager can see in their manager menu set.

The setup is managed in the Admin Tool, where you can choose between post-to-post, person-to-person, or a combination of both methods, depending on your organisation's structure.

Check your reporting line settings

There are several options to determine how Reporting Lines work. This is configured in the Admin tool; to check this, follow these steps.

  1. In the Admin Tool, click Configuration Options.

  2. Double-click HR.

  3. Check the option selected for Reporting Line Option.

Reporting line options

Below are the three reporting options available in SelectHR.

Post to Post Only

This method will require that each employee's Career History record is configured with a post.

Each post in use will need a Managing Post. The managing post must have an occupant.

The occupant of the Managing Post will have requests routed to them.

Person to Person Only

This method requires a person to be assigned in the Reporting Override tab in the employee's Career History process.

The person configured in this tab will have requests routed to them.

Mixture of Both

This method will first check if a person to person relationship has been assigned for the employee.

If there is, it will route absence approvals to the person assigned.

If there is no person to person relationship, it will revert to using the Post to Post relationship, routing to the occupant of the Managing Post.
