This article shows you how to configure working patterns in SelectHR for employees who only work during part of the year, such as those on compressed or term time contracts.

To represent part-year working, you'll need to create multiple career history records for the employee:

  • One record for each working period.

  • One record for each non-working period.

These records should be entered in a repeating sequence, manually maintained throughout the year.

Prerequisites

Before configuring the career records, make sure you have created two working patterns:

Working pattern A (non-working period)

This pattern represents when the employee is not working.

Field

Value

Days

All set to use the Non Work Day schedule

Pattern type

Matches the full-time pattern for their post

FTE and Holiday FTE

Set to 0.00 if the employee should not accrue holiday during non-working time, or 1.00 if they should be pro-rated as full-time

Start date

Set to the Sunday before the first non-working day

Working pattern B (working period)

This pattern represents when the employee is actively working.

Field

Value

Days

Set according to the employee’s normal working days

Pattern type

Matches the full-time pattern for their post

Start date

Set to the Sunday before the first working day

Create the employee's career history

Create a career record for each period the employee is working or not working.

These entries cannot be repeated automatically. Each one must be created manually.

You may need several records per year, depending on the employee’s working schedule.
