Error: The TUPE date must be earlier than the joining date

Error message when accepting an employee in pending changes of SelectPay.

This issue occurs when an employee's continuous service date is before their appointment start date in SelectHR.


First, amend the employee's continuous service date, appointment start date, and initial pay from date so they match.

Following this, you will need to trigger these changes to submit to SelectPay.

  1. In SelectPay, reject and delete the pending change for the joiner record.

  2. In SelectHR, navigate to the new starters Appointment Details form.

  3. At this point, it is essential to take note of the Payroll Name and the employee's Payroll Number against the appointment.

  4. Remove the Payroll Name, then click Save.

  5. Re-enter the Payroll Name.

  6. Ensure the Payroll Number has not changed. If it has, make sure it matches its previous value that has been previously noted.

  7. Click Save. This will trigger the joiner record to be submitted to SelectPay again with the now-matching continuous service date and appointment start date.

  8. In SelectPay, accept the pending change of the joiner record.
