Buy & Sell Holiday App Overview
The SelectHR Buy & Sell Holiday app provides employees with an easy way to request the purchase or sale of holiday from an active holiday year. The app uses a template-driven approach, allowing customisation as needed.
Once submitted, requests are routed to the employee’s absence approver, who can review and authorise or decline the request. The app updates holiday statistics automatically and calculates a monetary value for the request. If integrated with SelectPay, this value can be pushed into payroll.

Request to buy or sell holiday
The employee selects the Holiday Year they wish to buy for or sell from.
They choose a request type of either Buy or Sell.
They enter the number of days or hours they wish to buy or sell (based on how their entitlement is set up).
(Optional) They can enter any Request Notes.
The employee clicks Continue to review their request and current holiday statistics.
Once satisfied, they click Complete to submit the request.
The employee is notified that the request has been sent to their absence approver (defined by the Workflow Absence Approval Rule).
The employee will also have a workflow task allowing them to cancel the request until it has been authorised or declined.
To cancel a request, the employee:
Opens the workflow task.
Reviews the request details.
Clicks Cancel.
The approver is then notified that no further action is required.
Authorising a Buy/Sell request
The approver receives an email with a link to the task.
The task shows full request details and the employee’s current holiday stats.
The approver clicks Accept or Decline.
The employee is then notified of the decision via email.
Authorised requests
If the request is accepted, a holiday addition record is automatically created.
Positive value = Bought holiday.
Negative value = Sold holiday.
HR receives a notification to optionally record a one-off payment or deduction.
If HR does not wish to do this, they can simply cancel the task.
If HR does wish to proceed:
The task opens the Other Pay Details form.
The pay amount is pre-filled based on:
The employee’s daily rate (or hourly rate).
Multiplied by the number of days or hours in the request.
HR must complete at least:
Pay Element Type
Pay From Date (future dated if it’s to go to SelectPay)
Amounts can be manually adjusted if needed.
If the employee has multiple appointments, HR will first need to select the relevant appointment to which the payment or deduction should be applied.
Limit how much holiday can be bought or sold
You can limit how many holidays can be bought and sold, but this involves making a change to the configuration of the process.

Track holiday bought or sold
Employees and HR can view the full Buy/Sell Request History, which includes:
Holiday Year
Request Type (Buy or Sell)
Amount and Units
Request Status (Pending, Accepted, Declined, Cancelled)
HR can track requests for each employee using the Buy & Sell Holiday Request History menu item.
