Written by Harry Ledger

This article explains how to create or restore a SelectHR data connection in Access Office Integration (AOI).

Before you begin

The steps in this article apply to AOI version 5.7.19 or later.

If you're unsure which version of AOI you're using, refer to the AOI version article. If an upgrade is required, contact the AOI support team.

You may need to create or restore a SelectHR data connection after:

  • Upgrading AOI.

  • Refreshing AOI application data.

  • Installing AOI on a new device.

  • Connecting to a new SelectHR database.

Restore an existing SelectHR data connection

If you've recently upgraded AOI or refreshed the application data, you can restore your previous data connection settings.

  1. Open File Explorer.

  2. Click in the address bar and delete the existing path.

  3. Type %appdata% and press Enter.

  4. Browse to: AccessAccountingLtd\AccessOfficeIntegration

📌 Note: If the AOISettingsBackup folder doesn't exist, return to the AccessAccountingLtd folder and check for an AccessOfficeIntegration_Old folder. Open the relevant version folder and continue from the next step.

  5. Open the AOISettingsBackup folder.

  6. Locate AccessAccounts.Shared.DataConnections.xml.

  7. Right-click the file and select Copy.

  8. Return to the AccessOfficeIntegration folder.

  9. Open the current AOI version folder.

  10. Right-click and select Paste.

  11. Choose Replace the file in the destination when prompted.

  12. Open AOI Administrator.

  13. Select Data Connections to confirm the connection has been restored.

Create a new SelectHR data connection

  1. Open AOI Administrator.

  2. Select the Office applications you want to use with AOI, or select All.

  3. Select any additional options required for your environment.

  4. Click Data Connections.

  5. From the Connection Type dropdown, select the appropriate SelectHR connection type.

Follow the relevant section below depending on your SelectHR deployment.

On-premise SelectHR

  1. Select the required Datasource.

  2. If Windows Authentication is configured, select Windows User.

  3. If Windows Authentication isn't used, enter your SelectHR username.

  4. Enter your password.

  5. Select the Database dropdown.

  6. Choose your SelectHR database.

  7. Click Add.

Hosted SelectHR

  1. Enter your hosting username (for example, DM1234SmithA).

  2. Enter your password.

  3. Confirm the HTTPS Server URL:

    • Standard hosted environments typically use: https://aoilive2.accessacloud.com

    • Private hosting environments may use a different URL.

  4. Select the Database dropdown.

  5. Choose your SelectHR database.

  6. Click Add.

📌 Note: If your organisation uses a proxy server, you may need assistance from your IT team to configure connectivity.

Set the default connection

After creating the connection:

  1. In the Data Connections list, select the SelectHR connection.

  2. Click Make Default.

  3. Click OK.

Verify the connection

  1. Open Microsoft Excel, Word, or Outlook.

  2. Confirm that the Access tab is available.

Once the connection has been created and set as the default, AOI should be able to connect to your SelectHR database and make SelectHR data available within supported Microsoft Office applications.
